So this morning during our normal routine my kids asked me "What was the first game you ever beat?". I nearly blurted out Battletank or Asteroids. But those games you really never beat. They just keep going and going and going. "Beating" a game means you reached the final level or beat the boss or collected the last thing. So now I am not really sure I beat any game in my Atari days at all.

The Games I had on my Atari were Asteroids, Pac Man, Centipede, That f***** piece of s*** E.T. Yars revenge, Pong (Tennis), Battle Tank, Olympics, boxing, baseball, football, Pole Position, Space invaders, Pitfall, Frogger and so on. I cannot remember for the life of me if any of those had endings or if I had made it to them. I read in a magazine that if you reached 1,000,000 points in Asteroids you would beat the game. I stayed up all night playing that game and made it to a million points and nothing it just kept going. So I read the article again and it said it is considered beating the game which I found out later to also be bull s***. Should have listened to my grandpa and never trust anything you read in magazines or watch on the news. But I was 5 and Naive.

What was the very first game I beat? I am at a crossroads after my Atari days because I beat a well known school game called Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? I beat it every time I played it. The programmer really kept the game easy throughout. The patterns were easily recognized and I credit that to my time on the Atari and the Apple. Sad thing is I would suck at that game today. Recognizing simple patterns has become obtuse and unneeded for my thinking patterns. During this same time period I took two weeks out of my life to beat Phantasy Star on The Master system. Now I had an Intellivision in between these but I only played baseball for a long time. All the other games sucked, but baseball was a great pattern game (no curveballs). Phantasy Star broke my RPG cherry. I was submersed in it and really liked following the story. Although I got stuck and rage quit all the time I always came right back to it.

Phantasy Star

So there it is Phantasy Star was the very first game I beat that I can remember. Oh crap memory is coming back....Pitfall????????

This was to hard to make from scratch so I just borrowed it.

I went to a second hand store and found a Super Scope for Super Nintendo. By luck I happened to see this gem behind a bunch of old books. The guy running the place said I could have it for 5 bucks so I got this and another copy of Metal gear for NES for $7. I am not selling this one as it will go into the vault but if I see another it will be on this site. all and all a good day!

Went to a garage sale down the street and found this unit. Came with just one controller and one Game Spawn the comic book character. I have yet to test this one out but it looks great. I'll take it apart and have it on ebay in a week or so. The greatest thing about these Sega Dreamcast systems is that you can burn your own homebrewed games on them. There is a website dedicated to just that. DC Evolution has a lot of different games for you to download and burn using Disc Juggler. I usually include 5 of these free games with each system I sell. I'll post the ebay link when this is ready.
